Original(e) coffee shop

Either if you are visiting a city or running errands, a comforting drink and a snack are always welcome to recharge batteries… Am I right?

We were walking around the city center of Bilbao when we discovered this great coffee shop: Originale. Just warm and elegant, it is the type of place that makes you feel you belong as soon as you step in.

We were a bit hungry around 12 and, as the whole world knows, spanish people do not tend to eat early so we preferred the salty option as lunch time was still far away. (yes, during the weekends 3 p.m is the usual lunch time. Astonishingly, or not, it is also at this time that the main news bulletin starts).

But moving on from our crazy spanish eating schedules and coming back to this amazing coffee shop, we had the chance to try 3 different dishes and some drinks.

On the drinks side, the hot chocolate had an intense and very comforting taste. It was surprisingly light even though in Spain it is more typical to serve a thicker, and heavier, hot chocolate version.

The lemonade, on the other hand, was fresh and not too sugary, which I personally prefer for this drink. Perfect for a little pause.

Coming to the salty side, the bikini was incredible thanks to the combination of truffle and white sauce, also known as bechamel. An amazing match that I had the chance to discover.

With its subtle butter flavour and the delicious truffle perfume, this sandwich was just addictive.

The avocado toast was flavourful and thanks to the little greens and sprouts all over had an interesting combination of textures and tastes. A perfect dish when looking for a healthier and lighter option.

The pesto sandwich had for more intense notes that were perfectly balanced with the creamiest burrata and a salad topped by wonderful onion pickles which added a great acid contrast.

If you are craving something sweeter this time, they also had cookies, brownie, apple pie and other desserts that looked really tempting even though I can only judge with my very trained “food quality estimation” visual skills.

Here you have a picture of the menu so you can start planning your next visit
