Hidden French-Japanese Restaurant in Toulouse: Les Planeurs
When living in Toulouse, you find that there is a great offer of restaurants and it can be hard to choose one. It had been some time that I wanted to try this ‘hidden’ restaurant that I had heard about: Les Planeurs. It turned out to be a great experience that I wanted to share with you, in case you live in La Ville Rose or you are planning to visit it anytime soon. This restaurant serves French cuisine with a Japanese touch, and we found it to be delicious.
Hidden entrance
The restaurant cannot be seen from the street, although you can find it in Google Maps. You will see a regular building with an intercom. Once you pass the main door, you will find yourself in front of what it looks as a normal flat. You will be surprise of the great ambience inside!
We sat on the interior terrace, which was calm and fresh during the summer period. We found the servers very friendly during the entire dinner. As for the drinks, we decided to go for the ‘Accord mets et vin’, which in France means that they will serve you different glasses of wine during the dinner that are supposed to match the food that you are going to have in the menu. We were served three types of wine, all of them delicious.
Truffled Starter
For starters, we had an excellent white tuna tartare millefeuille with zucchini and Spanish iberic ham, topped with slices of summer truffles. It was a great combination between the fish, the ham and the truffles, served with a spicy mayo and crunchy fresh green beans.
Fish Time
Afterwards we were served fresh pollock with lobster sauce and summer vegetables. The fish was cooked just right, the sauce was mouth-watering, as well as the mushrooms. Only drawback: I found that the summer vegetables did not pair very well with the fish.
What about meat?
The last salty dish consisted on roasted turkey with eggplant, onions, carrots, beetroots, chinese cabbage and potatoes. All covered with soja sauce with verbena flavor. Simply delicious!
And if you are still not convinced, here goes the incredible dessert: crême patissière flambée with homemade pistachio ice cream. I could honestly say that it is the best pistachio ice cream I have ever had! Not too sweet, with a strong pistachio flavor, served with raspberries, passion fruit and rhubarbe. The combination of textures, flavors and different temperatures was perfect.
